I borrowed MI:III from John's parents to watch sometime during the day, since John doesn't want to see it again (BBC/A&E snob!).
When watching Mission Impossible, or The Firm, or any of Tom Cruise's films, for that matter, I always know (1) he's going to look and act Intense, and (2) eventually, there will be a scene where Tom Runs Fiercely Toward (or Away From) Something Dramatic, with his eyes open insanely wide. This is fact. Watch any Tom Cruise movie, wait long enough, and you'll see him running. He's not a bad runner, which is perhaps why every director thinks it's necessary to show him in top form, Running Intensely. But it's hard to remain engaged in the movie when I'm waiting for the running scene to show up.
And apparently I am not the only one who has noticed this phenomenon. A quick Google revealed another observant moviegoer who has YouTubed the evidence. Here's a spoof on a Nike commercial with clips from Tom Cruise movies. What did I tell you?

I wouldn't blame the directors for this one. I think Tommy-boy probably has a clause in his contracts insisting that he be allowed to showoff his "physical prowess" with at least one running scene. I mean, come on, the man can bounce on Oprah's couches...he must be able to run better than the average star! ;-)
And if you weren't able to stay engaged with MI:III, don't worry about it; you didn't miss anything. My friends and I used the fast forward button through most of it!
